Wow, this web site for AG is great! I lived in Altgeld block 1, the beautiful block, winner of the flower parade. For grade school, I attended Our Lady of the Gardens, was a color guard in the Jackson Raiders Drum & Bugle Corp and my daddy drove the Sears truck. Oh, what some wonderful memories I have of Altgeld.

Do you realize how jealous people from other Public Housing Developments are because they don't and can't have anything like this? Remember, we are unique. Our love for Altgeld brings us together on one page. Be sure to let everyone know about this website. Again, hats off to this young man for creating this tool of communication. Peace

I just happened to stumble across this website while searching for something. I'm really surprised to find that Altgeld Gardens had a website. AG has always been my first home. Been out there practically all my life. I graduated from Carver High a year before they changed it to a military academy. I wonder if my picture is still hanging up in the ROTC classroom. I will always love the AG.

Thanks for your creation of this excellent website. I will be sure to tell others about it. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Gwendolyn Shepard, Maldonaldo Sioux Vargas and Johnny Payne. They would have graduated in 1967 had they stayed at Carver. Just wondering what happened to them.

I think this is a great idea and a perfect way to keep people in touch and up to date on the happenings. I feel this website will become increasingly more useful with time. I am particularly interested in hearing from ex-block 15ers.

Yes, I'm a product of Altgeld Gardens, and honey you don't have to beg my pardon, for I'm not ashamed of the mighty "AG", because, there a solid foundation was laid for me. It was called a housing project, however, we didn't see; for we lived together as one big family. Garden spot of America it was named, and in the sixties it was noted for fame. Of course there were brawls, and even fights, but you could bet the next day, things were made right! People came from near and far, to get to Altgeld by bus or car. To dance at the Children's Building under the Starlight, with sweethearts kissing and hugging tight. George W. Carver was our High School we attained an education for our parents didn't play, nor raise fools. Our teachers loved us, we were unique; no other assignments did they seek. People lived well, poverty we did not see, a working parent always supported the family. Roller skating at the Catholic and Children's Building too; gave us productive recreation to do! What is Altgeld like today? Who can say? Are the people willing to grow? Do you know? Is there a desire to restore a once wonderful community as before? Can it blossom again in our society? Yes, if contributions are made by you and me! I'm so proud of the Competitors, Boss Ladies of Leisure, for creating this legacy, and keeping alive the spirit of the mighty "AG"
